Volunteer FAQ’s

Lets give you some answers!

Do I have to be a certain age to volunteer with Salem Free Clinics?
All volunteer positions require applicants to be 18 years or older.

Do I need medical experience to volunteer with Salem Free Clinics?
We welcome volunteers with or without experience in a healthcare or medical setting for all of our general volunteer positions.

How often do I need to volunteer?
We require a minimum commitment of at least one volunteer shift (about four hours) per month. Most of our volunteers find this to be very doable and volunteer on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

What sort of training will I receive when I come on board with Salem Free Clinics?
Depending on the volunteer role that you apply for, you will likely have 3-4 supervised training shifts. We require and provide training for all of our volunteer positions. Once you complete orientation, detailed information is given about training for your specific position.

Can I volunteer short-term with Salem Free Clinics?
We ask all of our volunteers to make a minimum commitment of at least one volunteer shift per month for at least six months. Our clinics are all volunteer based, which makes it very hard for us to have a high turnover rate with short-term volunteers.

Can I shadow a provider or nurse at your clinics?
Because our clinics are volunteer based, we do not currently accept student or non-licensed shadows of our providers or intake nurses.
